Can overeating strategically actually help weight loss?

If you told the average dieter that overeating could possibly help them lose weight, they would think that you have fallen off your rocker. What they don’t understand is that there is actually some science behind controlled overeating and weight management.

The fact is, when you are trying to reduce caloric intake for too long of a period of time, your body responds with hormones that slow down the metabolic rate sensing that food is scarce and the body needs to hold onto fat stores.  However, stimulating your body to fight this metabolic decline is as simple as strategically overeating at least once per week, while the remainder of the week is held at a slight caloric deficit each day.  These are called “cheat days” in the industry, and allow your body to revamp hormonal levels such that it stimulates an increase in metabolism and weight loss can continue.
