A Swedish company referred to as Tempurpedic, is solely responsible for bringing the memory foam mattresses to the retail market. The material that is used in the Tempurpedic mattresses was originally created by NASA so that they could pad the seats in the space shuttle for the astronauts. However, it was revised by the Swedes in order to make it more of an optimal sleep surface.
