Peruvian Earrings Capture the Imagination
November 10, 2008 8:11 pm MiscellaneousDangling pearls, shiny obsidian, bright red huayruro seeds, the sparkle of silver and the rich patterns of the Amazonian butterfly encased in sterling silver settings. These are just some of the incredibly imaginative designs and native materials that are at the heart of the Tikanchay collection of Peruvian Artisan Jewelry. Handcrafted in provinces from as far north as Piura to as far south as Arequipa, these master artisans are using native materials that speak to them, that carry symbolic significance and that spark their creativity. Many of the Peruvian earrings, bracelets and necklaces are designed by artisans whose families have been practicing their art for generations, learning the techniques at their parents’ knees and now applying modern sensibilities to the traditional designs.
